People in Wheelchairs Enjoy Wearing Kimonos

An event was held in Awa City, Tokushima Prefecture, to allow wheelchair users and other people who need assistance to enjoy wearing kimonos in a barrier-free way. Six people, including pupils from special needs schools, took part. The kimonos used for dressing were barrier-free kimonos developed by a kimono workshop in Tokyo. There are buttons on the inside of the kimono to adjust the size, and knots have already made at the back of the obi, making it easy for anyone to wear. The dressing was completed in about 10 minutes, even for wheelchair users, and participants enjoyed looking in the mirror at their kimonos and taking commemorative photos in the garden, all with smiles on their faces. A parent and child from Tokushima City said, "It's been eight years since I've worn a kimono at Shichi-Go-San, and I'm happy. Exhibits Include Dazai Osamu's kimonos, Exhibition of the Authors' Favourite Items

A special exhibition, 'Authors' Favourite Items - Slightly retro things', is being held at the Prefectural Museum of Modern Literature in Aomori City. The exhibition features 442 items that writers associated with Aomori Prefecture have used with great care and persistence throughout their lives. The exhibition will run until 25 December. In addition to kimonos, obis and neckties worn by Dazai Osamu, the exhibition also features the manuscript of his short story "Happiness at Home", which was bound by his wife Michiko Tsushima with Dazai's kimono as the cover. It can be seen that even after Dazai's death, his family carefully protected and passed on the manuscript.
