Nabari Road Market

The Nabari Road Market (organised by the Nabari District Community Development Council), a social event in the old town (Nabari area) of Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, will be held for the first time in three years on 9 October.

The first "Nabari Gokko" project invites visitors to dress up as kimonos, retro clothes or anime characters.
The event is calling for people to dress up in costumes that will be a hit in the picturesque townscape and help make the Nabari Road Market more exciting.

In order to utilise the sensitivities of the younger generation in the management of the project, Kotaro Hasegawa, 35, a member of the Nabari City Community Development Cooperative and in charge of the old town, was entrusted with part of the project.

The idea for "Nabari Gokko" came from her experience working at an anime shop in Tokyo.
The idea was to create a form of cosplay that visitors could easily take part in, as they felt that "cosplaying as anime characters is fun, but it takes courage to try it for the first time."
It will also be linked to the city's official social media accounts. Hasegawa says: "It could be a single retro accessory or a Halloween style, which is close to the time of year. I hope everyone can enjoy it."
