Nihon Waso, which offers free kimono dressing classes nationwide, has released the short film.
It was produced to introduce the appeal of kimonos and Japanese kimono to the world.

The guide is Riki, 17, who was born in Kyoto and grew up in Hawaii.
He has always wanted  to know more about the traditional culture of kimonos.
When he decided to stay in Japan for the summer holidays, Nihon Waso accepted him as an intern.

For about two week, he worked at the Ito no Takumi Centre in Kyoto, where the quality control department of Nihon Waso is located, inspecting kimonos and obis. On the side, he deepened his insight by observing kimono production and sewing.

In the film, the 17-year-old interviews Yoshio Domen, the president of Nihon Waso, and a Japanese kimono dressmaker and introduces the business of Nihon Waso and the joys of the staff involved with kimonos in a way that is easy for people from other countries to understand.

The intern also had a chance to try on a kimono with Domen.
He felt that kmonos are very comfortable to wear. If you wear a kimono in Hawaii, you will stand out and everyone will want to wear it, and that if everyone could wear a kimono, I thing our ancestors would be happy.

In the interview, Domen emphasises to the rest of the world that Nihon Waso is committed to its business with the desire to preserve traditional Japanese culture, including its big dream of making kimono a World Heritage Site (intangible culture heritage).
