About the Seifukai

"A bridge between traditional Japanese culture and young people"
Seifukai is a registered organisation of Doshisha University in Kyoto, which aims to carry on traditional Japanese culture, which is decline.

In recent years, the decline of traditional culture in Japan has begun to be recognised as a major problem, and the government and companies are trying to promote it to modern people in various ways.
However, even with these methods, the traditional culture industry still seems to be on a steady decline.
Therefore, Seifukai was set up with the aim of revolutionising the transmission of traditional culture nd approaching it in a different way.
We believe that a true revival of traditional culture means that young people realise the beauty of traditional culture.
To do this, young people need an entry point into traditional culture, and in addition, that entry point needs to be moved by the idea that it's cool to enjoy traditinal culture. For this reason, Seifukai offers events that cross fashionable and traditional culture, providing opportunities for young people who aren't interested in traditional culture to realise the beauty of traditional culture at events that they have come to enjoy.
For example, we have organised events such as "Yukata and Party", "Senchado tea ceremony and Pairing", "Tea ceremony and meditation" and Japanese culture workshops.
If students who are interested in traditional culture join Seifukai, we provide an environment where they can learn about traditional culture, such as sencha tea ceremony adn flower arranging. We, who know the cutting-edge of fashion, are conveying the appeal of traditional culture by acting as a bridge between Japanese traditional culture and young people.

About KOTOFURI

Development of traditions, development of culture, development of the kimono industry, and to create future kimono fans.
The project launched in April 2022 with these words as its theme is KOTOFURI PROJECT.
The Furisode Kimono Co-creation Project was set up as a place where young people in their teens and twenties can find traditional Japanese culture and the kimono "cool", "fashionable" and "fun", and become interested in it, by making original furisode kimono from scratch.
As prices from 98,000 yen, an unbeatable price for furisode kimono, we offer the creation of a plain kimono of your choice, made of silk, so that together we can create the one and only item in the world that will last a lifetime.
In addition, we organise dressing classes for students only, which can be attended for as little as one coin, and lend out kimonos and yukatas free of charge to our members, providing them with opportunities to experience the joy of kimono! We have a wide range of activities.

Main purpose of this event

Seifukai members have many opportunities to wear kimonos at various events, including sencha tea ceremonies.
However, the kimono industry has declined significantly in recent years, with modern people having little or no opportunity to wear kimonos.
With each opportunity to wear a kimono, members of the Seifukai began to express their own style in the way they match it. Having discovered the joy of wearing kimonos, they also began to take the opportunity to go out in kimonos in their daily lives.
We thought that if kimonos could be seen as a fashion item, just like the Western clothes we wear every day, there would be more opportunities to wear them in the same way as we do.
So, we decided to switch to yukata, which are easier and more enjoyable than kimonos, and organise a "Yukata and Fashion show" event.
In this show, we would like to propose that kimonos and yukatas are not just worn for sightseeing or weddings as a part of Japanese culture, but that they are used more in everyday life.
We want this event to be a catalyst for young people who discover the coolness of yukata at the fashion show to get into kimonos and other traditional cultures.
