The total number of illuminations this year is approximately 21,000. The illumination is located on the northern face (towards the Imperial Palace and Marunouchi) of the first floor of the Main Deck (150 m high). The only charge is the observation fee to the Main Deck.

The Milky Way Illumination is a summer tradition unique to the Tokyo Tower, which began in 2004 and is held for the 19th time this year.
The light based on blue is likened to countless stars twinkling in the night sky, while the light based on white flowing gently in the middle is likened to the Milky Way, and the occasional shooting star flowing vigorously expresses a star-filled sky.
Once every 15 minutes, the blue of the starry sky moves to pink and gold, and the RGB control of the pixel LEDs transforms the "Milky Way" into a vibrant seven-colour "Rainbow Milky Way".
As night approaches, the Milky Way illumination reflected in the window glass of the main deck blends into the real Tokyo nightscape below, creating a starry sky world of glitter, as if a real Milky Way has been created.
