Kimono Critic Hiromi Ichida Passed Away

Clothing critic Hiromi Ichida, who devoted herself to the promotion of kimono culture, died of acute respiratory failure on 1 August at the age of 90.
Her funeral was held with close relatives. The pallbearer was her brother Masao.

She was born in Osaka. After graduating from the women's junior college of Kyoto Prefectural University, she worked as a company employee and actor before becoming president of Ichida Beauty Salon (Kyoto).
Dressers Association and was selected as a "Modern Master Craftsperson" in 2001 as a kimono dresser.

She came into the limelight when she appeared in a TV commercial for SUNTORY green tea in the 1990s.

She was also known for her collection and study of ethnic costumes from around the world and worked extensively as an essayist and designer. She has written a number of books, including Kyoto Style: A Book for Saying What You Want to Say, and Hiromi Ichida's First Kimono Dressing.
