Special Course in Period Costumes

Yamaguchi Kimono Gakuin (headed by Noriko Yamaguchi) in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, held a "Special Summer Course in Period Costumes" at the Japan Silk Village in Takasaki City on 10 July. 
About 60 students deepened their understanding of how to dress in costumes worn in period dramas and dances.

Michiko Hirabayashi, a kimono dressing instructor, taught the course.

Introduction to the Kanto (around Tokyo) and Kansai (around Kyoto) styles of dressing for the costumes worn in Chikamatsu Monzaemon's "The Underworld Express Messenger, Umegawa Chubei", as well as an explanation of the dressing of kimono for girls in dance.

The students took notes, took photos and studied with a serious look on their faces, and in pairs of five, actually tired on the kimono.

It was the first time in three years that event has been held due to the pandemic.
It's been held for many years to improve dressing skills for dance and stage performances.
