7 July is Tanabata star festival day. Around 50 employees of the Mitsukoshi main shop in Nihonbashi will welcome visitors to the shop in yukata.
Approximately 50 employees will welcome customers in cool yukata at the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi main shop on Tanabata star festival and Yukata Day (established by the Japan Yukata Federation in 1981) on Thursday 7 July.
When the shop opens at 10am, employees in yukata will greet customers at the Lion Gate on the ground floor of the main building and at the Ginza Line Exit on the basement floor, promoting the yukata as a summer tradition.
On the fourth floor of the main building, the kimono floor, a yukata section is now open with a wide range of products to meet diverse needs, including a selection of approximately 400 types of custom-made yukata rolls of cloth, ready-to-wear yukata and accessories for dressing, such as obi belts, zori sandals, bags etc. Sales have been strong this year, with growing demand for yukata as summer attire for going out and enjoying events for the first time in a while.
From Thursday 7 July, which is also Tanabata and Yukata Day, special offers for customers wearing yukata and a yukata photo session will be available, providing an opportunity to wear a yukata, a traditional summer garment. The sales season will be boosted to promote the unique Japanese summer yukata culture.
