No Photography Allowed at Hyakuman Goku Fest

Kanazawa

For the first time in the festival's more than 70-year history, spectators were banned from filming Lord Toshiie and Omatsu, played by famous actors at the highly successful Kanazawa Hyakuman Goku Festival. There have been complaints that this wasn't made well enough known in advance.

"Please refrain from taking photos!"

Staff voices echoed through the Hyakuman Goku Procession. As photography of Load Toshiie and Omatsu was prohibited, staff with placards were calling attention to spectators along the route.

Although it was the first time in three yeas that the Hyakuman Goku procession had been held due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ban on filming was announced on 28 May. The festival was to be held from 3 to 5 June.

Many spectators were not convinced by the lack of explanation or prior notification of the reasons for the ban on filming.

City officials commented that they had banned filming as a result of discussions with the organising committee and other relevant parties due to the number of problems with portrait rights on social media in recent years, and that the delay in the announcement would be addressed in the future.

It's not yet known whether next year's Hyakuman Goku procession will also be prohibited from being filmed.
