A kimono retailer, Erizen Co. (Kyoto, Ginza and Nagoya; President: Akira Kamei), holds its first event, Kimono Outing Orienteering (Stamp Collecting) Strolling Version, from 1 June to 30 September 2022, using an online orienteering with a digital map to learn about the perfect places to go out in kimono, mainly at temples, restaurants and museums in Kyoto.
Background to the "Kimono Outing Orienteering"
Since April 2020, the pandemic has resulted in the loss of opportunities to go out wearing kimonos, such as to meetings and parties.
Retail sales are declining due to a decrease(*1) due to a decrease in opportunities to wear kimonos. Production has also been forced to shrink significantly(*2), and the kimono industry is at a fork as to whether it can continue to produce quality products for the next 10-20 years.
Meanwhile, interest in culture and tradition is growing, including among younger generations. The company recognises that amidst the ongoing reassessment of values, the challenge for the future is how to enable as many people as possible to experience and feel the appeal of the kimono, a traditional industry in Kyoto.
As a retailer, we often hear people say that they don't have the opportunity to go out wearing a kimono, but in fact there're many places in Kyoto where kimonos look good.
With this in mind, kimono specialist shop Erizen, whose corporate mission is to "transmit the culture of wearing kimonos", has decided to use the digital map Stroly to introduce the perfect spots for a summer or autumn outing in kimonos.
About the "Kimono Outing Orienteering"
It's an online orienteering full of Kyoto's attractions, proposed by Erizen Co. The event is aimed at those who are looking for an opportunity to enjoy the kimono and those who want to start a life with it. The digital map Stroly introduces some of the best spots in Kyoto that go well with kimonos.
Stamps are automatically stamped when you stop in the vicinity, so you can easily participate in the orienteering while enjoying sightseeing in Kyoto.
If you visit places of interest such as Gion, Okazaki and Kibune and collect stamps, you'll be presented with a summer-perfect souvenir at Erizen's main shop in Shijo Kawaramachi, Kyoto.
