Kimono Company Donates Kimonos to Infant Care Centres

Shichi-Go-San

The kimono manufacturer and seller Furukawa (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto) donated a total of five pairs of kimonos for three-year-old girls for the ceremony to celebrate the growth of children, known as Shici-Go-San, to two infant homes in the city. The sunny red and blue outfits will be used for the ceremony in Autumn.

At the presentation ceremony held at the City Hall on 3 June, the company president Akira Furukawa said that he wanted to emphasise the importance of bonding and contact amid the social stagnation caused by the coronavirus crisis, and handed the kimonos to Ayako Furumura, the director of Sekkeien Infant Home (Nishikyo Ward), and Tatsuo Yoshida, the director of Heian Tokugikai Infant Home (Nishikyo Ward).

Both homes care for infants and toddlers up to the age of three who, for a variety of reasons, have difficulty living with their parents.

Yoshida said, "I'm very grateful because I've cherished milestone events such as Shichi-Go-San. I'm happy to imagine my children wearing them".
